Long Distance Triathlons

Long distance triathlons, either half distance or full distance, require months of training and especially so, if you are not a seasoned triathlete.  One should never put up barriers though, I completed an Ironman 70.3 (half distance) within 10 months of my first triathlon.  Prior to that, I had only been a cyclist with very little running.  Everything is possible!

Long distance triathlons are commonly known by their branding “Ironman“, although there are other organisations across the world that organise long distance events, such as The Challenge Family, OSB Events run “The Outlaw” which is a full distance triathlon, and the Castle Triathlon series run a full iron distance.  These are but a few examples.

The half distance and full distance are commonly as follows:

Half distance

1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21.1 km run.

Full distance

3.8 km swim, 180km bike, 42 km run.
